  River of Glass

This is my first full-length manuscript of 60 poems, a collection of new poems and revised older poems.

Heather McHugh, the distinguished poet, said of Ann’s manuscript: “A straight-faced, unornamented account of an emotionally occasion makes for very moving fictive premises. Your capacity to leap from one facet to another of the experience is vivifying.”

It’s circulating now. Please wish it luck.

Here's a new poem from this book:

NEW MEXICO

I have the photo still,
shot in glaring sunlight.
I was eighteen, wearing his cap
and gown and smiling like I knew

what was coming.
He had a shack at the end of the mesa.
Sagebrush rolled into the hot breeze.
A fly buzzed. Mouche, I thought,
wondering how I knew that word.
I bit down on my finger
to stop the pain.
I married him, god help me.
